Storytelling

Gather everyone in a comfortable space where they can all see each other. Spread the Formatio Cards on the floor, making sure everyone can easily reach them.

  1. Invite participants to choose a card representing a story from their life that they feel comfortable sharing. This could be a challenge they’ve faced and overcome, a moment that changed them, or an experience with special meaning.

  2. Starting with whoever feels ready, each person then takes turns sharing the chosen card and the story it represents. Remember, this is a space of respect, aroha, and understanding—every story is valued here.

  3. Once everyone who wants to share has done so, take a moment to reflect on the stories. You might want to offer a few words to close the session, maybe a prayer or a thought that ties our stories together, highlighting the taonga of these stories.

Variation for Sharing Challenges

If you’re focusing on sharing challenges, encourage group members to talk about what the challenge was, how it impacted you, and most importantly, how you navigated through it. What did you learn? How did it shape you? Sharing stories of challenges is best used in groups that have a high level of trust.
